Family Brassicaceae. Brussels sprouts are a member of the species Brassica oleracea, bred for their edible buds that look like miniature cabbages. They were popularized in Belgium which is where they got their name. Brussels sprouts are a dependable cool season crop here in Central Texas, and are ready for harvest 90 to 180 days after planting.
