About Us

Lone Star Nursery, also known as Austin's Original Green Thumb, is a multi-function facility using non-GMO, pesticide free, all natural Organic inputs, offering seasonal vegetable plants, as well as ornamental annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, and herbs/edibles. We grow everything we sell on-site. Our quality is our motivation.

Our Story

We are a family-run boutique working nursery. We specialize in useful and bizarre edible, medicinal, native, and rare plants. We were certified Organic from 2012-2021, and discontinued the certification due to cost - although our growing practices have not changed.

Lone Star Nursery, officially established 2004, started in our backyard in East Austin, where we grew plants for farmers' markets out of our homemade greenhouse.

The owners of Lone Star Nursery, Flint and Jay, became well known in the Central Texas gardening community for being sources of both hard to find plants and horticultural knowledge. Watch all of our Central Texas Gardener video appearances here.

For a decade, we focused on supplying retail nurseries all over Central Texas with unique organic vegetables, herbs, houseplants, native plants, succulents, and ornamentals. Eventually we outgrew our backyard and moved out to beautiful Manor, TX where we upgraded and expanded our greenhouse facilities.

In 2020 we ceased our wholesale operations and pivoted our business model to direct-to-consumer retail delivery. We specialize in contactless delivery within a 45 mile range of our greenhouse.

Lone Star Nursery is named after one of the first nurseries in central Texas in the 1880’s.

Our Quality

All of Lone Star Nursery's final products are carefully inspected before reaching the end user. Our seed and plant material is only purchased from vendors whose primary purpose is to preserve the natural systems of plants and plant propagation.

99% of our product is germinated / propagated on premises, and only leaves our hands upon selling. Our seed is specifically purchased from only 'certified Organic' businesses or those publicly devoted to 'seed safe' practices. Once on location, seed and plant stock are handled only in compliance with USDA certification program guidelines.
