This stunning, large Aloe grows a robust, solitary trunk that can reach more than 5 m tall. The large, succulent, grayish green leaves can reach 1 m long and carry short spines along their margins. The old leaves form a dense skirt around the trunk below the crown. The large, branched inflorescence holds many orange red flowers. Aloe excelsa is native to southeastern Africa.
