A moderately large banana that forms small clusters of robust pseudostems to 7 m tall. The inflorescence produces a large bunch of bright orange fruits that split open as they ripen, revealing a golden yellow, edible pulp studded with small, angled seeds. It is one of only a few species that are schizocarpic or dehiscent-fruited, i.e. with self-splitting and peeling fruit. Musa lolodensis is native to rainforests from Maluku to New Guinea. It is unknown in cultivation but would make a stunning ornamental for the tropics.Cultural RequirementsSun Exposure Full sun from early ageLight shade when youngLight shade in dry, hot climatesLight shade in all climatesFrost Tolerance NoneWater Requirements HighWind Tolerance LowAppearanceGrowth Rate Very fastGrowth Form Palmlike TreeHerbaceous TreeOrnamental Value PrettyUsesProperties EvergreenHazards Child and Pet FriendlyGardening LandscapingOrnamentalPotted
