AKA, Fever plant or Kapuri Tulsi. Perennial woody shrub. Native to Kenya where it is used to treat colds, coughs, measles, anti-ulcer, bronchitis, anorexia, memory disorders and diarrhoea.. A large plant with grey-green foliage and a strong medicinal camphor scent. The essential oil contains nearly 70% camphor, and is a source of commercial camphor production. The flowers are white to light purple and exceptionally attractive to honey bees but repellant to mosquitos. Give this one room as it can spread to three of four feet across. Full sun. Said to be used internally for malaria & other feverish infections, with tea made from the leafs and flowers. A bit strong to use in place of other basils for cooking, but could be interesting in sauces!
