Thornless boysenberries are a gardener’s dream, offering large, juicy berries, redder than blackberries, with a sweet-tangy flavor on smooth, thornless canes. Boysenberries were bred from European raspberries and three different varieties of native blackberries, and are the fruit that made Knott's Berry Farm of Buena Park in Southern California famous. The berry was developed in the 1920s by Rudolph Boysen in Anaheim California and was commercialized by Walter Knott. Also known as Thornless Youngberry.. Versatile berries are ideal for fresh eating, baking, or making jams and preserves. Plants thrive in full sun and well-draining soil, vigorous, with abundant harvests in early to mid-summer (likely June/July). Exceptional flavor, high yields, and easy-to-harvest canes. Needs protection below 10°F. Heirloom.
