BUNDLEFLOWER --Desmanthus illinoensis--

BUNDLEFLOWER --Desmanthus illinoensis--

Sometimes called "Prairie Mimosa", it appears very similar to mimosa, although the flowers are butter yellow, not pink. Actually a nutritious and medicinal plant! Seeds have almost the protein content of soybeans, and root bark was used historically as a ceremonial medicine. Seedpods form attractive blush rosettes, good dried for flower arranging. Up to 4', full to partial sun, plenty of water while growing. The Pawnee tribe used leaf tea for itching, and the Hopi used the seeds for conjunctivitis.
