This is a Catalogna style Cichorium, sometimes called chicory or endive, and closely related to radicchio. Heirloom. Roasted roots are true chicory coffee substitute. Red-veined leaves are savory, tangy, and bitterly delicious. The one in the photo volunteered in the floor of the greenhouse and is about 3 years old! Ideal for braising & mesclun. Harvest in the evening for longer shelf life. 30-60 days.
