EUCALYPTUS 'Rainbow Gum' --Eucalyptus deglupta--

mindanao gum This giant evergreen tree can grow to 75 m tall and produces a trunk to 2.4 m in diameter with smooth bark that peels off in long strips and reveals vividly colored lower bark layers. The result is a highly attractive trunk that displays nearly all colors of the rainbow, from green to orange to purplish red. The light green, simple leaves form a somewhat irregular crown. Eucalyptus deglupta is native to the Philippines, New Guinea and neighboring islands and is the only Eucalyptus adapted to the humid, lowland tropics. It is popular as an ornamental, but realistically, due to its large size and breathtaking rate of growth, can only be grown where there is ample space available. In many tropical countries it is planted as a forestry tree.Cultural RequirementsSun Exposure Full sun from early ageLight shade when youngFrost Tolerance NoneWater Requirements HighWind Tolerance ModerateAppearanceGrowth Rate Very fastGrowth Form Giant TreeOrnamental Value BreathtakingUsesProperties ColorfulEvergreenHazards Child and Pet FriendlyInvasiveGardening OrnamentalAgriculture/Forestry ForestryQuick CanopyProducts/Economic Essential OilWood Dark WoodLight WoodReddish Wood
