A large, very robust tree fern native to moist forests in southeastern Australia and Tasmania. Its thick trunk is covered in a dense layer of dark brown, wiry roots and reaches a height of 5 m (17 ft.) or more. Trunks to 15 m (50 ft.) tall and with a diameter of more than 2 m (7 ft.) have been found.
