The ginkgo is a living fossil, similar to fossils dating back 270 million years! Seeds, leaves, and nuts have been used in Chinese medicine since at least the 11th century, and the nut is a highly esteemed ingredient in modern Chinese food like congee. Grows best in well-watered/drained environments. 60-115 feet, turns an INCREDIBLE golden yellow in the fall.
