Pretty evergreen plant with pink/lavender blossoms, resembles mint or marjoram. Young leaves and stems have a pleasant aroma and are good for salads. Whole adult plant can be cooked, and was also powdered and brewed cold as a beverage by Native Americans. Used in folk medicine as a wound poultice, for heart health, and sore throats. Currently being studied for use in treating herpes, cancer, and diabetes, though more evidence is needed. It grows all over the world and many different peoples found it valuable, so it has many names, from self-heal, to heart-of-the-earth, carpenter's herb, brownwort (for the color of the calyces), blue curls, and others.
