LETTUCE 'Purple Sword Celtuce'

Celtuce is also called "Chinese stem lettuce", prized for its tender leaves AND stems, which can be treated and eaten like asparagus, in fact the botanical name of celtuce is L. sativa var. asparagina. Purple sword has purplish leaves that are long and pointed. Leaves can be eaten raw, entire plant can be roasted whole like a Gai Lan, and stems can be peeled and stir fried or pickled. To harvest, cut down the entire plant before flowering, when the stems are at least 1” in diameter and 1” tall. 75-85 days.
