LETTUCE 'Tom Thumb'

Heirloom introduced in the 1850s. Small, round head with delicate leaves and a delightful sweet and crisp flavor, about the size of a baseball. Higher lime content in the soil makes lettuce sweeter - good for Texas, but lime can also be added manually to soil if desired. Named after the fairy tale boy so tiny he could wear an oak leaf as a shirt and sleep in a rose blossom. Perfect for one-person salad, and since it's small, matures quicker than other heading lettuces. Can be planted close together in a small space. Grows well in containers on your patio or use it as a petite planting border. 45 to 50 days.
