Rivina humilis --Pigeonberry--
Rivina humilis --Pigeonberry--
Dainty Texas Native shrub, 1-3' tall, great for understory for its shade tolerance. Blooms form at end of stems, pretty white to pink, followed by bright red berries loved by many kinds of birds. Can bloom at any time of the year including the middle of winter! May go dormant in summer if not watered. Berries are not edible to people, but have been used in cosmetics, hence the alternate name "rougeberry".
