PERSIMMON 'Texas' --Diospyros texana--
Hardy native fruit tree with small, dark purple-black fruits that are delicious in puddings and custards, should be cooked to reduce astringency. Native tribes used it to make black dye. Inner heartwood of very large trees is a gorgeous ebony that takes a fine polish. Compact, intricately branching, and drought tolerant, good also as an ornamental. Birds and small mammals love the fruit. LSN grows this native plant from wild harvested and hardy seeds.
