Manfreda maculosa --Texas Tuberose--
Manfredas look a bit like agaves, with clumps of spiky radiating leaves. This variety has dramatic splashes of purple, and produces an incredibly gorgeous, fragrant flower spike in early summer. Groups can be used as a hardy, drought-tolerant groundcover in sand, clay or even rock. Attracts pollinators, freeze hardy, full sun. Rhizomes were used by First Peoples to make soap and shampoo. Primary host plant for the rare Manfreda giant skipper butterfly.
