Malvaviscus arboreus --Red Mexican Turk's Cap--
Native shrub has pretty red blossoms, almost hibiscus-like in this variety, though smaller, and produces edible fruit that looks and tastes like tiny apples! Even pops apart into little wedge "slices". Drought tolerant, prefers part to full shade, though will tolerate sunnier spots. Attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, and moths.
