Uncarina grandieri --Mousetrap Tree--
Uncarina grandieri --Mousetrap Tree--
Really unusual and rare endangered Madagascar native grows into a shrub or small tree to 10'. Blooms big black-eyed yellow flowers for several weeks in early summer, which become wild Dr. Seuss style pods. The extremely sticky pod spikes catch on large animals' coats, which helps with dispersal. Oddly, it is related to Sesame! Madagascar natives have used the pods as mousetraps. Suitable for container, we recommend bringing inside during winter, protect from frosts.
