A small, deciduous ginger with leafy shoots to about 1.2 m (4 ft.) tall and a terminal inflorescence with attractive, closely spaced, orange flowers. Native to the Himalayas from Nepal to eastern Tibet between 1800 and 2400 m (5900 and 7900 ft.) it can form large colonies on shaded, often rocky slopes.
