Rare Heirloom calabacitas! Delicious and unusual squash popular in Mexico and Texas, round/oval med-dark green to yellow fruits with faint stripes. Squash are best at 5-7" in diameter. Firm, fine flavor with very vigorous spreading vines. Give tatume plenty of room to spread. It likes heat and has excellent resistance to squash vine borer. Slightly oblong, light green-grey skin, meaty, nutty flesh. Can be allowed to mature longer on the vine for a winter squash with better shelf life. Great diced, sauted with onion, then scrambled in eggs. A high fiber, low calorie very filling breakfast, with a side of refried beans and a dollop of salsa.
