SQUASH 'Zapallo Chileno'

Cucurbita maxima species, the same that produces the largest of Halloween pumpkins. Enormous round, ribbed squash with grey-green skin and vibrant yellow-orange flesh, weighing 30 - 60 pounds! Very popular in South America for hundreds of years, where slices of these widely cultivated huge squash are sold in market stalls for making traditional stews, breads, and desserts (sopapillas, yum!). In more northern areas it is picked young and tender for summer squash. This variety from Santiago, Chile. Plants are huge and luxurious, so give them plenty of room.
