This sweet, white, short-day heirloom onion has been grown in the Lone Star State since 1944. Originally introduced to the U.S. in 1925 from Valencia, Spain. In the 1930s the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station began an onion breeding program; the Grano was trialed and selected for early maturation and huge size, sometimes as big as softballs! Extra-sweet and early Vidalia-type onions up to 1 pound each have a thin skin and supremely mild flavor, so sweet they can be eaten like an apple! 110-180 days.
